August 22, 2023Monday 3rd of July Africause were proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week standing beside our First Nations members and Elders Aunty Joy Murphy.
People flowed in from the Western Region community to participate in a smoking ceremony , flag raising and heartfelt welcome from Aunty Joy and other community leaders, Dr Berhan CEO Africause and Professor Melbourne University and Victoria University, and Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius.
Metro Trains Driver Manager Kate McConnell said “The passion for celebrating and respecting first nations people goes to show you the type of organisation Africause is. What a beautiful blend of celebrating NAIDOC and connecting the similar difficulties that the African community have to our first nations. It made me think and reflect. It was an honour to attend.”
