The impact of the current rising cost of living and the housing/rental crises on single mothers with children and victims of domestic violence, particularly from refugee and migrant communities, is unfolding. These victims have no network or language to communicate for help.
Our office in Footscray is experiencing, on average, at least 2 or 3 mothers or men seeking shelter. We have exhausted all avenues of support, and we need financial assistance as well as access to homes to provide these families with protection and a roof over their heads.
In the last 2 days, a mother with a 14-year-old son was evicted from her rented unit, and she is now sleeping in a small car with her son. She keeps asking for help, but it has not been forthcoming. The situation is becoming increasingly dire. We extend our thanks to our partners, like Igniting Change, who have provided assistance to one woman with a young girl. Please share any available options to provide these women and children with a home.
Once again, your support to help save these mothers and their children would be greatly appreciated.
