Africause
We are committed to doing everything in our power to give every African-Australian child the chance to learn, grow, and dream, because education is not just about school, it’s about building a better future for our young people and our community.
At Africause, we believe in supporting African students to achieve their best. Education is one of the main community empowerments, building future generations to better participate in economic, social, and political leadership in 21st century Australia. We've witnessed students who went from participating for less than 5 minutes a day to becoming fully engaged in school, just like their peers. We recognize that for students to stay in school, we need to collaborate with both school leadership and families—ensuring open communication and consistent expectations across the board.
An exciting and enriching program exploring wellbeing, diversity, inclusivity, and leadership through vibrant African cultures. Students develop a strong sense of identity, respect, positive relationships, resilience, responsibility, and leadership skills.
Fostering a sense of belonging and wellbeing through self-reflection, identity collages, guest speakers, and team-building activities.
Enhancing qualities of honouring self and others through respect pledges, role-playing scenarios, empathy exercises, and kindness challenges.
Establishing positive relationships through communication skills training, team-building games, conflict resolution, and community involvement.
Developing self-management skills through mindfulness practice, growth mindset teaching, goal setting, and stress management workshops.
Establishing awareness of responsibility for self and others through environmental awareness, community service, personal accountability discussions, and role model introductions.
Promoting student leadership skills through leadership trait discussions, leadership projects, public speaking practice, leadership panels, and career/entrepreneurship exploration.
Empowering students, families, and communities through comprehensive support
We're excited to offer 30 fully-funded teaching placements at Victoria University, designed to support aspiring educators in the African-Australian community.
