Why did you need Africause’s assistance?

For my son, he is on a modified learning program. His school hours reduced to two hours a day. He was unable to settle at his school environment. His also trying different medications and long school hours was challenging for my son. The school did support me to get extra help and they also recommended the Africause team to support both school and parent.

What areas have Africause assisted with so far?

Africause not helped only my son at school or standing by my side with school meetings to comfort me, they also helped me as a mum to make sure me and the rest of the family are ok too. They helped me financially, provide food, They helped me write support letter and explained my situation to my work manager save my job position while i am helping my son to settle better at school. They are approachable i can talk to them comfortably. Their visits at school and home helped as a single mother. It helps a lot to have a supportive person who is able to talk on my behalf and not from just family helping but someone else checking on us and making sure we don’t fall back nomatter the circumstances. I am grateful and I will always appreciate Africause team for their great support.

How are things with your son since Africause started supporting you as a single mother?

My Son is happy when he is comforted that there’s extra people involved checking up on him at school and home visits. School has been  challenging for my grade one.

He is six years  old, Type 1 diabetic and he has recently been diagnosed with ADHD. He is trying different types of medication, leaving school due to medical emergency, being pulled out to get checked or take medication there’s times he would refuse because he feels like his going miss out something if he leaves class or before snack time. I asked him once he did explain to me that sometimes he feels like he misses out something’s like play time because he has to stay back and the snack time finishes too quick and there’s not enough time to play. School is a different environment bigger place a lot of people around so it was too much for him to accept all at once. It took me time to explain to him that his health is very important, that he is a brave boy and is doing a great job. I trained him well he knows how to follow his health instructions. He manages well when he listens. I encouraged him he listen to his teachers so they can help him be safe at school. His Pediatrician increased his medication, the teachers and I noticed his more focused at school for good hours past weeks. He is noticing the help he is getting from every corner too. He seen Africause support person being around him too. He is slowly starting to understand it’s not only mum he now has to make proud. The Africause support person calls to chat with him with all the support and encouragement he is not only making his parents, and teachers proud he is also making the Africause team proud too. His slowly improving to stay settled in his class for two good two hours. Above all he is also maturing noticing the extra attention his been getting from the Africause/support person.

Will you recommend Africause to other families with challenging situations? And why?

I strongly recommend Africause to other families with challenging situations. They are not only helping and providing but they genuinely care. My family and I appreciate their great support.
